Raise a Toast

Whether you're a teetotaler or a barfly, it's been a sad week.

For those of the imbibing variety, you'll be distressed to learn that renowned beer connoiseur and writer Michael Jackson (pictured above) passed away on Thursday at his home in London.

And half a world away, Alfred Peet (pictured above), the gourmet coffee and tea pioneer who launched Starbucks' archnemesis Peet's Coffee, died on Wednesday in Ashland, Oregon.

Both men added much to the world - whether through your mug or your pint glass. Therefore, I heartily suggest we all raise a toast in memory of these two gents.

I think it's safe to say, it won't matter whether it's with a latte or a lager.
