"Eating Around" Watch Interrupted

Think the folks at the WSJ's Personal Journal caught on to my watchful eye? Well, it seems they've thrown my whole theory for a loop, replacing this week's usual "Eating Around" column with one entitled "Drinking Around."

The focus this week? Pomegranate juice. Definitely an exotic in my book. But, considering the proliferation of POM Wonderful in the city's local Korean delis, becoming more and more a staple. Here's what the Journal had to say on that score:

The story begins in the late 1990s, when Los Angeles-based company Pom Wonderful nearly doubled the nation's pomegranate acreage. Last year, it managed to get pomegranate juice into supermarkets around the country. Then it hired a celebrity bartender to create the Pomtini cocktail and began promoting it. The news reports touting pomegranates as unusually high in antioxidants? The company sponsored that research, too.

And, even more importantly, they offer up a delicious sounding pomegranate-inspired drink recipe from Luna Park restaurant in San Francisco:

RESTAURANT: Luna Park San Francisco
DRINK: The Crimson Cosmo
PREPARATION: One ounce vodka, just under a half-ounce of Cointreau, and two ounces pomegranate juice
PRICE: $8

Think I am required to shake one up at home in the near future. You can never get enough antioxidants!
